No city is perfect. What can make Chico better? Here's a list — but go ahead, add more!

Wishes

  • Preserve Chico's character and neighborhoods; approve smart growth, compatible infill on larger pieces of land, prohibit flag lots (punched in streets to backyard houses) in traditional neighborhoods.
  • Slow growth: Encourage local business growth/quality, and the hiring of locals. The bringing in of outside businesses, especially corporate, only brings more people, traffic, pollution, etc. (Now that we finally have Trader Joe's, we're just fine, thank you; no more need apply)
  • Sensor-based lights on Highway 32 from Broadway to Main. Traffic is unnecessarily snarled on a regular basis.
  • Strict code-enforcement of trashy yards after Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Remove several slabs of concrete from the new City Plaza and plant more grass and trees! Last of all, get rid of the fencing around its only mature shade trees! Good grief!
  • A night club for the 18-21 crowd
  • A magic shop
  • An ice skating rink
  • A municipal utilities district like Redding or Sacramento has (= cheaper rates).
  • A convention center
  • Statues of historical figures
  • An Italian pastry shop
  • A nice restaurant with good food that doesn't charge triple or quadruple retail for beer and wine. They manage to make a living in Brazil and Spain without gouging — Why not here?
  • City tax credit for solar energy installations
  • Police Review Board
  • An Internet Cafe
  • A Drop Zone in the area
  • Monorail
  • velodrome

Wishes That Came True

  • An Indian Restaurant! There are now three in Chico. See restaurants.

2008-05-16 08:53:01   In response to the internet cafe wish: Has Beans on Main St. may still have two computers that you could pay to use. Moxie's, which is now gone, had six or so. Other than that... besides investing in a laptop, the library and anything on Public Internet Terminals are the best bet at the moment. But who knows, maybe there is a full-blown net cafe out there, but the wiki community hasn't found it yet. —RyanMikulovsky

  • There's also some publicly-accessible computers on the second floor of the Merriam Library on Campus. —JanTrepin

2008-07-06 18:04:37   A local city ordinance prohibiting cars from driving through neighborhoods, blasting music. Particularly music that has a bass lifter, or sub woofer. That is the rudest stuff I have ever heard. Unfortunatly I get to hear it constantly on the street I live on. It's complete noise polution. —207.200.116.200

  • Haha! What Chico really needs is more Simpson's jokes on its wiki. That totally made my day! —StaceyEllis
  • Yeah that was a hilarious joke... back in the Late Petroleum Age.
  • What can I say? I've always been a sucker for a Simpson's joke... —StaceyEllis

2008-08-04 20:58:13   Wouldn't Tomfoolery in Downtown qualify as being a magic shop by having some tools of the magical trade? Or do I remember wrong? Anyway, check them out. At they very least you can buy a rubber chicken. —RyanMikulovsky

  • It's more of a general gift shop. When I think magic shop, I'm thinking of a place where someone interested in magician-like activities would shop for supplies. Didn't anyone see Pee Wee's Big Adventure?
