Corning is a city with nearly 7,000 people in Tehama County. The population was 6,741 at the 2000 census. Corning hosts a beautiful downtown intermodal station, opened in 1998, that hosts dedicated Amtrak Thruway Motorcoaches linking to Amtrak California Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains at Sacramento and the county's local bus system TRAX. It's the city with the most I-5 traveler services south of Red Bluff and north of Woodland.

Because of all the hotels right off of Interstate 5 and the lack of any acceptable places to stay north of Willows and south of Red Bluff, the town gets a considerable amount of revenue from the gas stations, hotels and restaurants right on the freeway.

A popular stop is the Olive Pit. West of Corning is Flournoy and Paskenta. Then you hit the Mendocino National Forest and almost immediately the burn area for the Whiskey Fire.
