Feb 9th - The steamer "Ulster" performed her trial trip from Holyhead to Kingstown in 2 hours 26 minutes

Electric light in Royal Marine Hotel powered by their own generator

1898

Ireland's first petrol-driven car imported by Dr J. F. Colohan, 26 Rock Road, Blackrock

July 20–22nd July 1898 the first ‘live’ transmission of a sporting event in the world, when Guglielmo Marconi broadcast the results of the Kingstown Regatta from steam tug to shore, to be telephoned through to the Daily Express

National Telephone Company established in Kingstown - first telephones in the town

Establishment of Kingstown Urban District Council

Fire Station (George's Place) opened

National Bank building  moved from Royal Marine Road to new building at 101 Upr Georges St (Now Bank of Ireland)
