Rosa Parks Circle was designed by Maya Lin. It is located in Heartside-Downtown neighborhood.

This sculpture contains three areas reflecting the three states of water. At the heart of Rose Parks Circle is Ecliptic, the large amphitheater, which converts to an ice rink in the winter. Under the ice in the winter there are 166 fiber optic lights that reflect the midnight sky of Michigan on January 1, 2000.

History

Rosa Parks Circle was formerly named the Monroe Mall Amphitheater. The Amphitheater was a popular spot for skateboarding, although is was illegal. It was rechristened during the transformation of the Monroe Mall to Monroe Center.
