SARANAC LAKE — Clarence R. McCormick, 85, a resident of the Dechantal Apartments, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1993 at his home.

Born July 13, 1908 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Barney and Exilda (Perry) McCormick.

Educated in the Saranac Lake School System, he spent most of his life in the North Country. After high school he built and operated Mack's Restaurant in Lake Clear. From there he left to work for the Bridgeport Post in Bridgeport, Conn. He next went into the hardware business for the N.T. Bushnell Co. in New Haven, Conn., where he became one of the managers of general hardware and factory supplies. He returned to the Adirondacks in 1954 to manage the hardware department of George L. Starks until it closed. Changing careers, he worked in the pest control industry until his retirement in 1973.

On June 1, 1938 he married Catherine "Kitty" O'Reilly, whom he met in Connecticut.

Mr. McCormick was a member of St. Bernard's Church and had been a member of the third- and fourth- degree Knights of Columbus. He had a great love of animals and his prized possessions were two Palomino thoroughbred horses.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Clarence, James and John of Saranac Lake and Edward of Ballston Lake; a daughter, Maureen Corbin of Oldsmar, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Bernard and William, and two sisters, Frances and May.

Private visitation will be held Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake at the family's convenience. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard's Church. Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Adult Center or the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad.
