Dorothy Simpson White wrote the Bloomingdale column in the Adirondack Daily Enterprise for many years.  She served as postmaster of the Bloomingdale Post Office from 1953 to 1973. She was one of eight children of Bertha and Mayroe Simpson.

SARANAC LAKE -- Dorothy A. White,. 94, formerly  of Bloomingdale died Tuesday, March 18, 2003 at Uihlein Mercy Center to Lake Placid.

Born in Roseland, N.J., on July, 18, 1908, she was the daughter of Mayroe and Bertha (Brickman) Simpson.

Mrs. White had been a resident of Bloomingdale since moving from Brooklyn in 1930. She was postmistress at Bloomingdale from 1944 until her retirement in 1973. She was the Adirondack Daily Enterprise news correspondent for the Bloomingdale area from 1973 until 1998. She was a former Bloomingdale village treasurer, deputy welfare officer for the town of St. Armand, a member of the Adirondack Business and Professional Women’s Club, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bloomingdale Fire Department, a member of the national association of postmasters of the U.S. and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and a charter member of the AMVETS Auxiliary, Post 73 of Bloomingdale.

She is survived by four grandchildren; Cheryl Ann White of Cortland, Patrick White of California, Gary White of Beacon and Lisa White of New Paltz; four brothers; August Simpson of Bloomingdale. Charles Simpson of Rochester, Edward Simpson of Pompano Beach, Fla, and William Simpson of Malone; two sisters: Bertha Dyer of Springwater and Alice Hoog [sic] of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Rolland [sic] in 1939, a son Dexter and a sister Ellen Hayes.

A graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery in the spring.

Friends wishing to remember Mrs. White may make memorial contributions to Bloomingdale Methodist Church in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home of Saranac Lake.
