George Henry Carley, Jr. was a World War II veteran.  He worked with Mrs. Dora at Lake Clear school, giving tours to the school children of Lake Clear station. He had many photos and memorabilia about the trains in Lake Clear, where he was born. He was the son of George and Louise (Martel) Carley. He graduated from St. Bernard's School in 1935, and from Saranac Lake High School in 1939. In 1941, he graduated from the New York State School of Agriculture in Canton.

He served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1946.

He also served as the postmaster at the Lake Clear Post Office for 24 years; he retired in 1972. He was president of the New York Branch of the National League of Postmasters. He served as chairman and a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the town of Harrietstown for 17 years.

Before the centralization of local schools, was the chairman of the District No. 5 school board, and was a member of the Centralization Study Committee. He also served on the St. Pius X High School, and as president of the Church Council and Holy Name Society of St. John's. He was the sexton for Harrietstown Cemetery and then for St. John's Church from 1947 to 1997.
