Dr. James Edward Newcomb was connected with the growth and development of Stony Wold Sanatorium, which his wife founded.

Dr. James E. Newcomb passed away at Camp Overlook, Lake Kushaqua, N. Y., on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 27th. The doctor had suffered for a long time with arteriosclerosis and chronic Bright's disease, which finally caused his death. Dr. Newcomb was born in New London, Conn., in 1857. He prepared for college at the Buckley School in New London and later graduated with honors from Yale in 1890. He studied medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York and graduated in 1893, after which he served for 18 months as interne [sic] at Roosevelt Hospital with which institution he has been connected for 30 years, during the last ten years of which he has been at the head of the nose and throat service. He was also physician to the Nurses' Training School at Roosevelt Hospital. He has been at the head of the nose and throat department at Cornell Medical College for several years. Dr. Newcomb contributed largely to the literature on diseases of the nose and throat and has held many positions of honor and distinction. Dr. Newcomb was during the last year president of the American Laryngological Association. Dr. Newcomb has been very closely connected with the growth and development of Stony Wold Sanatorium, of which Mrs. Newcomb is the president and founder. Excepting during the past year he has examined nearly all applicants for admission to Stony Wold.—Adirondack Enterprise.
