STONY WOLD LOSES ITS HOUSE MOTHER

Miss Sarah W. Newcomb, for twenty-one years house mother at Stony Wold Sanatorium, Lake Kushaqua, died on Monday, August 13, while on a visit at the home of her niece, Mrs. Leland H. Johnston, in Granville, N. Y.

Miss Newcomb had been in poor health for about six months, but was confined to bed only a few days before her death. Funeral services were held and interment made at her former home in Derby, Conn.

At the founding of Stony Wold sanatorium at Lake Kushaqua about twenty-one years ago by James E, Newcomb of New York, Miss Newcomb, [first cousin] of the founder, took up her residence there and has ever since looked after the comfort and well-being of the patients and been their confidential advisor and friend. It is largely thru her close attention and interest that the home-like atmosphere and success in management of the sanatorium has been attained.

Memorial services were held on Sunday afternoon, August 19, at Lake Kushaqua, at which Rev. E. T. Ruck, rector of the Episcopal church here officiated. Patients of the sanatorium arranged a very good musical program.
