Louis Fobare dies, was Carnival king
SARANAC LAKE — Louis E. Fobare, 78, king of the 1977 Winter Carnival, died early Sunday morning at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.
He had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1921. He lived at 7 Prospect Avenue, with his wife, Ida.
He was born in Churubusco, the son of Louis and Siloni St. Mary Fobare.
He was the superintendent of building construction for J. J. O'Connell for 53 years.
He was very active in community affairs, including serving as president of Saranac Lake Lions Club. He was a past governor of the Loyal Order of Moose and past chairman of the Harrietstown Housing Authority.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ida Morrison of Saranac Lake; three sons, Irvin and Edwin, both of Saranac Lake, and Hubert of Troy; a brother, Leo, of Saranac Lake; and four grandchildren. A fourth son, Lionel, died in 1932.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Keough and Son, Inc., Memorial Chapels.
There will be a Bible vigil service at 7:30 tonight followed by the Saranac Lake Lions Club memorial service at 8 tonight.
The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev. Timothy Chambers officiating.
Interment will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Candidates for Saranac Lake Winter Carnival king and queen
LOUIS FOBARE
Louis has been a resident of Saranac Lake for many years and has a long record of community service. Louis has been a very active member of the Saranac Lake Lions Club and as a member was largely responsible for many of the beautiful floats that have become a part of every Winter Carnival Parade. (It is understood that Louis has again designed a beauty for this year).
Also, as a member of the Lions Club he designed the plans and spent many volunteer hours in the construction of the Little League Baseball Field on Ampersand Avenue.
He is a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, 457; he is a member of the Harrietstown Housing Authority and worked long and hard for low income housing in our community. He serves on the Harrietstown Board of Review.
With all his community service he was also earning a living and spent over 50 years employed at J. J. O'Connell and only left there when Mr. O'Connell decided to retire from business.
Louis Fobare has devoted much of himself to our community for over 50 years.
