Michael Leonard, 80, Dies at Mercy Gen'l Hospital Thursday

Michael J. Leonard, 80, who had been staying at the Plaza Hotel here, died Thanksgiving Day at 3:35 a. m. in Mercy General Hospital.

He had been ill about two weeks, and was admitted to the hospital on Nov. 23. The funeral took place at 9 a. m. Saturday at St. Alphonsus Church here, and interment was beside his wife in Calvary Cemetery at Norwood.

He was born in Ottawa, Ont., June 7. 1884, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Leonard, and married Miss Margaret Anna Fitzsimmons in that city in 1903. They moved to Tupper Lake soon after their marriage and Mr. Leonard worked in the Santa Clara Lumber Co. mill and the Tupper Lake Chemical Co. plant here. He was caretaker for several years at Hemlock Ledge on Big Tupper Lake, and for 42 years served as caretaker at E. P. Swenson's Indian Carry camp on Upper Saranac Lake, retiring about four years ago.

His wife died Dec. 27, 1957. Surviving are one son, William E. Leonard of Norwood; two sisters, Mrs. John (Mildred) Laurey and Mrs. Elizabeth LaSalle, both of Ottawa, Ont.; four brothers: Thomas, Robert and James Leonard, all of Ottawa, and Nicholas Leonard of Oneonta; and one grandson, James Leonard, Nor- wood. Two nieces, Mrs. Hazel Mayotte of this village and Mrs. Vera Macaluso of Clifton, N. J., were brought up by Mr. and Mrs. Leonard.
