Neil R. Rogers was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Arthur and Ethel (Harrington) Rogers.  He was a member of the 1964 U.S. Olympic Bobsledding Team

SARANAC LAKE - Neil R. Rogers, 72, of Trudeau Road, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 1995 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born Jan, 15, 1923 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Arthur and Ethel (Harrington) Rogers,

Mr. Rogers was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1940. Following high school he attended St. Lawrence University in Canton. He was employed for 35 years as a patrolman for the Saranac Lake Police Department. Mr. Rogers was a member of the 1964 U.S. Olympic Bobsledding Team and competed in Innsbruck, Austria, as well as at many other bobsled events worldwide. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific theater. He was a member of the American Legion Post 447 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a past member of the Saranac Lake BPOE Elks Club.

Survivors include one brother, the Rev. Thomas W. Rogers of Rostraver, Pa.; a sister, Nancy Morgan of Saranac Lake; a nephew, Mark Rogers of Plattsburgh and two nieces, Dr. Gail Rogers Rice of Saranac Lake and Paula Fish of Cadyville. He was predeceased by two brothers, James H. Rogers and Colin A. Rogers.

Calling hours will be held today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be a veterans service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard's Church with the Rev, John Silver officiating. Interment will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
