Orville Betters was a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Ranger.

ORVILLE E. BETTERS, 42, OF SARANAC LAKE, DlES

Orville E. Betters of Saranac Lake, a 42-year-old forest ranger, died Friday at the Western division of Montreal General Hospital. He was well-known to many hunters and sportsmen in this area.

A native of Saranac Lake, he lived there all his life. He had been a ranger since 1934.

Surviving are his wife, the former Loretta King, formerly of Chazy Lake, three brothers, four sisters and several nieces and nepews. Funeral services were held Monday at Saranac Lake.

Saranac Man Gets Forest Ranger Post

SARANAC LAKE — James Bickford of this village has been appointed forest ranger of the Conservation Department for the Saranac Lake area. The appointment was made by Commissioner Perry D. Duryea of Albany. Bickford succeeds the late Orville E. Betters, who died last March 3.

The new ranger was born at Lake Placid and during World War II he served four years with the 4th Division of the Marine Corps, with two years in the Pacific theatre.
