Peter Venance LeMay, age 79, of Lake Clear, New York died Friday, March 06, 2009 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Montreal, Canada on May 15, 1929, he was the son of Venance LeMay II and Mary Rita (McMartin) LeMay.

Mr. LeMay graduated from St. Paul’s School in Concord, New Hampshire. He attended Harvard University and graduated from Syracuse University as an English Major. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1951. He became a Cpl. and fought with the First Marine Division along the front lines and was seriously wounded on October 15th, 1952. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in that battle.

Peter was an avid fly fisherman who loved the Adirondacks and spent summers at his mother's and stepfather's Camp on lower Saranac Lake, Camp Massapequa, which the family still owns. He traveled to New Zealand, Alaska and Maine to fish. He also loved golf.

He is survived by his wife Rogene (Vosburgh) LeMay whom he married on August 1, 1954 in Saranac Lake, New York. They had one daughter, Barbara of Saranac Lake (telephone 518-891-0591) who survives him. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jennifer McIntosh Smith of Bedford, Indiana, Shane McIntosh and his wife Judi of Lake Clear, NY and Sam Darring from Los Angeles, CA; three great grandchildren Ehyrie Buehler, Lyric Smith and Blake McIntosh, two nephews William and James Donati from Wilbraham, Mass. and several cousins from Canada. Mr. LeMay was predeceased by his mother, his stepfather Roy A. Floyd-Jones, two sisters Mary Elizabeth LeMay and Barbara (LeMay) Howley and one sister-in-law Gloria Vosburgh Donati.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 from 3PM - 6PM. A Veteran's Memorial Association Service will take place at 5:45 PM on Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A reception will immediately follow at the Saranac Lake Moose Club in Saranac Lake. Burial will take place in Harrietstown cemetery in June.
