Sol Drutz Running for Mayor

Democrats Nominate Merchant

Sol Drutz, of Drutz Super Market on Bloomingdale avenue, was named candidate for mayor of Saranac Lake at the Democratic caucus held last night at the Harrietstown Town Hall.

MR. DRUTZ' BACKGROUND

The Democratic candidate for mayor is well known in Saranac Lake. He has been a resident here since 1929 when he left Wall Street to join his father in business.

Mr. Drutz received his education In New York City and majored in accounting at both CCNY and Columbia University.

He was married here to the former Maxine Effenbach, of Saranac Lake. The couple have one son, Aaron, who is presently stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky., with the armed forces. There is a daughter, Helen, who attends Syracuse University and a younger daughter, Susie, at home.

Mr. Drutz is presently serving as chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the village of Saranac Lake. He served as a village trustee from 1936 to 1940 and has held many offices in the Democratic party of me village. He is a Past Exalted Ruler of the Saranac Lake Lodge of Elks.

Obituary Solomon Drutz

FOREST HILLS - Solomon Drutz, former resident and civic minded leader of Saranac Lake, died May 14, 1996 at Parkway Hospital in Forest Hills.

Born Nov. 24, 1910, in Bottineau, N.D., he was the son of Hyman and Annie (Ginsburg) Drutz. He was married to Maxine Effenbach Drutz.

Mr. Drutz was the owner of Drutz Market in Saranac Lake until 1960 when he retired from the grocery business and moved to New York City to become an accountant for a textile company. He Was a past exalted ruler of the Saranac Lake Elks Club; an active member in the Saranac Lake Golf Club and Democratic Club; a Rotarian, and acted in the summer theater to which he was a great contributor.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Aaron (Bud) Drutz of Vienna, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Helen Ann) Zais of Fern Park, Fla., and Mrs. Fred (Susan) Benson of Baldwin; a sister, Bessie Redmond of Rego Park; four grandsons; and four greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph, of Saranac Lake.

A graveside service for family only will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead.
