The original design of the campTent platform permit #1197, opposite Pope Island, issued to John W. Gorgas in the 1940s. It was one of the last tent platforms to be taken down on Lower Saranac Lake, destroyed over Memorial Day weekend, 1977.

Leaky Joe at the front dockThe front dockTent Platform Permit No. 1197 was held by John W. Gorgas and family from the 1940s through the 1970s. It was located at the northeastern end of Pope Bay.

Chris Gorgas, John's grandson, writes:

My brother Keith knew the old lock tender up on the river heading up to Middle very well... Ken Seymour was his name... Keith took me to show Ken the day I caught my first bass, at the mouth of that river, using the Lazy Ike lure.
