The Trudeau Society was established in 1905 as the American Sanatorium Association, a division of the American Lung Association. It was renamed in 1938 in honor of Dr. Edward Livingston Trudeau. In 1960, the name was changed to the American Thoracic Society. It is a non-profit, international, professional and scientific society for respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine, committed to the prevention and treatment of respiratory disease through research, education, patient care and advocacy.
