Jane's Walk - a free, multi-city, community-based series of urban walking tours, created in the late Jane Jacob's name. Jacobs, an internationally renowned urbanist, believed the best way for people to experience their city was on foot - getting in touch with their environment and with each other.
Although Jane Jacobs had no formal training as a planner, she introduced ground-breaking ideas about how cities function, evolve and fail, which now seem like common sense to generations of architects, planners, politicians and activists. Inspired by her grassroots approach to city-building, Jane's Walk was established in 2007 (a year after Jane Jacob's death) and has grown to 19 cities in Canada alone, allowing thousands of participants to get to know their cities, towns and neighbours.
Jane's Walk will be taking place in cities and towns across North America on May 5 & 6 2012
