About this neighbourhood

This neighbourhood is sometimes known as the "South Annex" because it is located just south of the Annex a popular and well known neighborhood in downtown Toronto. It has also been called the "Professor Ghetto", supposedly because of the high number of professors who live in this area as this area is next door to the University of Toronto

Things To Do

Get a no-maintenance haircut at Hutoshi Hair & Skin Studio on 112 Harbord St. Ask for henna hilites, chat with the owners (some of the friendliest people in the neighbourhood) and ask for a private tour of the owners' famous second floor garden with 300 flower pots.

Browse one of the several book-stores, including Book City, BMV, Caversham Booksellers ("North America's largest mental health bookstore"), and the Toronto Women's Bookstore (which often has events including readings, workshops and film screenings).

Places to Eat

Harbord Bakery is the best bakery in the area, and the first business to open on Harbord Street. Several well-reviewed casual and fine-dining restaurants line Harbord Street, including Splendido, Tati, The Harbord Room, Messis, Olive and Lemon, and DT Bistro. Family restaurants, student pubs, and fast-food take-away joints are found on the south side of Bloor Street, the west side of Spadina Avenue and the north side of College, including neighbourhood mainstays Dooney's, Future Bakery and Cafe, Paupers Pup, Brunswick House ("The Brunny"), Papa Ceo's Pizza, and Cora's Pizza.
