Albert H. Breier served for many years as the Saranac Lake village clerk and deputy treasurer. He was married to Goldie Mahaney, and the couple had a daughter, Martha. They lived at 6 Circle street.

Heart Attack Is Fatal Today to Albert H. Breier

Albert H. Breier, 65, village clerk and deputy treasurer for the past 17 years, died suddenly at 2 o'clock this morning at his residence at 6 Circle street following a heart attack.

Mr. Breier had worked throughout yesterday at his office and had spent a quiet evening with his family and friends last night. He was stricken shortly before 2 a. m. and death came suddenly.

Born April 7, 1882 in Aachen, Germany, he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Wachten Bieier. He received his early education in Germany and came to this country at the age of 14.

Forty years ago Mr. Breier moved to Saranac Lake and on April 7, 1916 he married Miss Goldie Mahaney of this village. For 16 years Mr. Breier was employed as a bookkeeper for the firm of Walton and Tousley.

In 1930 he was named as village clerk and deputy treasurer, offices which he had held since that time. For the past few years he had also served as a village assessor.

A member of the Republican party, Mr. Breier served as an election inspector for 20 years: and clerk of village caucuses. He was treasurer of the Saranac Lake Red Cross chapter for 17, years resigning this office in June, 1946. Last year he was awarded the National Red Cross service pin in recognition of 15 years of work for the organization.

Mr. Breier was a member of he local Methodist church and the Whiteface Mountain Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons.

Surviving him are his wife of this village; a daughter, Mrs. E. Major Day of Glens Falls; a sister, Mrs. Marie Ulmer of Princeton, N. J., and two grandchildren, E. Major Day, Jr., and Barbara Day of Glens Falls. A Masonic funeral service will be conducted at 8 o'clock tomorrow night with funeral rites at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon with the Rev. Theodore R. Bundy officiating. Interment will be at Pine Ridge cemetery.
