Augustine Charles Branch was the son of Stella and Spencer Branch. He was one of 12 children. His uncle was also named Augustine Branch. The family lived at 44 Helen Street when he was a child.
Augustine was ring bearer in his older brother Roland's wedding in 1953. In 1964, at the age of 17 he was arrested for disorderly conduct in Bloomingdale. He joined the Navy in February of 1965. The family lived at 111 Broadway at that point.

Augustin [sic] Charles Branch, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Branch of 111 Broadway, Saranac Lake, was inducted in the Navy Tuesday at a ceremony in Albany. He has been sent to the Great Lakes Naval Station for training.
