Walnut Street and North Walnut Street together run north-south through northern and central Woodland. Walnut Street becomes North Walnut Street north of Beamer Street.

Walnut Street is named for walnut trees, two species of which are native to Woodland. It is one of many streets in Woodland that are named for trees.

Walnut Street

Walnut Street runs from Beamer Street to Cross Street. Situated east of Cleveland Street and west of Elm Street, it intersects the following streets in order from north to south:

  1. Clover Street
  2. Elliot Street
  3. North Street
  4. Court Street
  5. Dead Cat Alley
  6. Main Street
  7. Dog Gone Alley (east only)
  8. Lincoln Avenue
  9. Crossed Trees Alley (east only; the alley is not officially named)
  10. Oak Avenue.

Along the way, it passes by Christiansen Park, Walnut Street School, and City Park.

Only three of Woodland's many alleys have official names. Walnut Street intersects two of the named alleys, and North Walnut Street intersects the crossbar of the remaining named alley.

Walnut Street has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include the invasive weed species Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) and Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). Other non-native street trees on Walnut Street include Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum), European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'), Chinese Hackberry (Celtis sinensis), Narrowleaf Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia ssp. oxycarpa 'Raywood'), Kentucky Coffeetree (Gymnocladus dioicus), Goldenrain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata), Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), Fruitless Mulberry (Morus alba), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), London Plane (Platanus × hispanica), Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra), and Saw-leaf Zelkova (Zelkova serrata).

North Walnut Street

North Walnut Street runs from Beamer Street to a loop just north of Kentucky Avenue. Situated east of North Cleveland Street and west of Freeman Street, it intersects the east-west crossbar of Hobo Alley, then intersects Plane Avenue, Woodland Avenue, Hanna Way (east only), and Emerald Street.
