North Street and West North Street, unlike other similarly named streets in Woodland, do not connect to one another. Were they connected at some point in the past? If you know, let us know. In the present, though, West North Street (not to be confused with North West Street!) runs east-west from Cottonwood Street to California Street, and North Street runs east-west from West Street to East Street. North Street becomes Lemen Avenue as soon as it passes east of East Street.
Although the east-west streets that pass through West Street and/or East Street get "West" added to the beginnings of their names west of West Street and east of East Street, the north-south streets do not get "North" added to the beginnings of their names until they pass north of Beamer Street. North Street is located two to five blocks south of Beamer Street and does not have any such transformative power.
North Street
North Street runs east-west from West Street to East Street in north-central Woodland (north of Main Street). Situated north of Court Street and south of Elliot Street and Clover Street, it intersects the following streets in order from West to East:
- Grand Avenue
- Cleveland Street (North Street jogs one lot width to the southeast at Cleveland Street)
- Alderson Alley (north only; the alley is not officially named)
- Walnut Street (North Street jogs one lot width to the northeast at Walnut Street)
- Elm Street
- College Street
- Library Alley (north only; the alley is not officially named)
- 1st Street
- Yolo Alley (north only; the alley is not officially named)
- 2nd Street (north only)
- 3rd Street
- 4th Street
- 5th Street (north)
- 5th Street (south: 5th Street is offset slightly at North Street)
Beginning just across West Street from Taquería Guadalajara, North Street passes by Walnut Street School, In & Out Market, the Yolo County Probation Department, the Yolo County Public Defender's Office, the Yolo County Law Library, the Fourth & Hope Food Distribution Center, El Buen Gusto Market, the Islamic Center of Woodland, Akbar Ali Gill, and Hot Dogs y Elotes el Primo.
North Street has been planted with street trees by the city. The street trees include two invasive weed species: Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera) and Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). However, one of the street tree species is native to Woodland: Valley Oak (Quercus lobata). Additionally, Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is planted as a street tree on North Street and is native to other parts of California. Other non-native street trees on North Street include Trident Maple (Acer buergerianum), Red Maple (Acer rubrum), European White Birch (Betula pendula), Camphor Laurel (Camphora officinarum), European Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'), Chinese Hackberry (Celtis sinensis), Chinese Fringe Tree (Chionanthus retusus), Chitalpa Trees (Chitalpa tashkentensis), Narrowleaf Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia ssp. oxycarpa 'Raywood'), Maidenhair Tree (Ginkgo biloba), Goldenrain Tree (Koelreuteria paniculata), Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), American Sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua), Japanese Crabapple (Malus floribunda), Fruitless Mulberry (Morus alba), Black Tupelo/Sour Gum (Nyssa sylvatica), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), London Plane (Platanus × hispanica), Holly Oak (Quercus ilex), English Columnar White Oak (Quercus robur 'Fastigiata'), Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra), Cork Oak (Quercus suber), Idaho Locust (Robinia × ambigua 'Idahoensis'), Japanese Pagoda Tree (Styphnolobium japonicum), Little-leaf Linden (Tilia cordata), Chinese Elm (Ulmus parvifolia), California Fan Palm (Washingtonia filifera), and Saw-leaf Zelkova (Zelkova serrata).
West North Street
West North Street runs east-west from Cottonwood Street to California Street in western Woodland. It intersects Weber Street, Williams Street, Schuerle Street, and Abele Street, passing by U.S. Bank and Yolo County Child Support Services.
